Braidwood Soil Construction Service

Steve Black, the Director of Braidwood Soil Construction Service, was born and bred in the Braidwood district, spending many years working on the family farm. Steve began his career in the earthmoving industry in 1988 with his first big machine, an international TD9B bulldozer. Today the BSCS fleet has grown to more than twenty pieces of plant and equipment performing a wide range of services.

From major road work projects for the local council, crushing and screening and gravel supply along with servicing farmers in dam construction, fire mitigation works, and trail works for forestry, National Parks and other instrumentalities, Steve, with the help of son-in-law and company foreman Tim Moffitt, have built a solid reputation for themselves over the years across a large scope of services.

Committed to exceeding client expectations, Steve shares, “we have seen many small businesses come and go and pride ourselves in quality works and value for money. Our local knowledge, years of experience and being supported by reliable modern equipment is paramount to being a successful local business.

We had been using another manufacturer for over a decade, but after doing our research on not only machine features and specifications but also support and service, we made a decision to change and purchased the impressive Volvo EC220ELD excavator. Our rep from CJD Equipment Ross Forsyth has been pivotal in our latest purchase. His efforts to help us get a great deal, along with CJD Equipment’s excellent service and maintenance, greatly contributed to our decision on the Volvo.”

WE BELIEVE IN INVESTING IN OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY

“We put the most value and pride in ourselves and our team of excellent reliable operations and prefer to only employ locals. We see the value in investing in the local community by working with talented local operators,” said Steve

Volvo has been a market leader in articulated dump trucks and wheel loaders for many years, offering operator comfort and reliability. Steve has been successfully running these machines in his fleet for many years. The recent advancements and technologies in the Volvo excavator range have become very attractive for many businesses such as Braidwood Soil Construction Service, with many features supplied as standard, where these would otherwise be extras with alternative brands. The new GPS features, fuel efficiency and operator comfort make it hard to walk past.

Steve added, “on one of our recent projects working with Queanbeyan Palerang Regional Council (QPRC), which includes a major upgrade on the Braidwood to Nerriga Road, our new EC220ELD has played an integral part of this project which has been running for two years now and expected to continue for a similar timeframe into the future. Our operators love this machine.”

THE VOLVO TECHNOLOGIES AND SOFTWARE ARE A GAME CHANGER

Matt Reeves has been the operator of the EC220ELD at Braidwood Soil Construction Service. After having the opportunity to watch Matt work this powerful machine, EEM needed to have a chat and get Matt’s insights on the EC220ELD after spending nearly a decade using alternatives.

Matt shared. “immediately the comfort of the cab and its operator orientated features were impressive. From the chair to the legroom, the space in the cab is great. On the safety front, the 360-degree birds-eye camera and excellent visibility allow you to productively work on the projects, with the confidence of knowing what always surrounds you. The technology like Volvo Dig assist and optional Trimble software is a game-changer. With vast amounts of power and fuel efficiency using only eight-litres per hour, these are both massive and equally impressive. It’s a big decision to make such a significant change of excavator in an operation like ours, and it’s been the right decision from many angles.”

CJD Equipment Regional Sales Manager for ACT/Riverina, Ross Forsyth has been a part of the CJD Equipment team for eight years. Five of those years were as a mechanic followed by three years in sales, so his working knowledge of the range is second to none.

Talking shop with Ross, he shared with EEM, “I’ve been working with Steve for two years and sold him the EC220ELD with Volvo Dig Assist and Trimble software.” The EC220ELD comes with factory fitted Volvo GPS 2D and can be upgraded to 3D with just software for Topcon and Trimble. Also included is the factory fitted Volvo onboard weighing and Volvo Smart View (3D view from top). It also has active control with swing height and depth fence and semi-auto dig function with tilt control.

Ross was thrilled to receive the opportunity to provide Steve with the quote on the EC220ELD. Due to the quality that Volvo machines offer, along with their top-shelf servicing and maintenance, and not to mention great price, Ross was extremely happy when Braidwood Soil Construction Service gave CJD the green light to go ahead with the purchase. Several months in, the EC220ELD has fitted into the team perfectly. “I look forward to helping Braidwood Soil Construction Services with more machines in the future,” commented Ross.
